Description of the Boquerón
Boquerón is one of our flagship products. It is a type of fish that is only caught on certain dates, when it approaches our coasts in search of warm waters to spawn. This is the “Engraulis encrasicolus“, a species that generally comes from the Cantabrian coasts and is accredited in most cases with the MSC sustainable fishing label.
Method of capture
The method of capture is purse seine fishing, an ancestral technique that basically tries to make a circle with the nets on the surface of the sea once the fishing banks are located. This technique is respectful with the environment facilitating the balance in the marine habitats. Moreover, given the growing problem of overexploitation of the seas by intensive fishing, Kiele has decided to opt for maritime sustainability by joining the MSC seal, which protects life in the oceans. That is why we are proud to display on our labels all the information regarding FAO’s, fishing methods and sustainability.
Once fished in these coasts they arrive at our facilities in less than 8 hours to begin with our traditional and artisan method of elaboration.
We only use natural preservatives (oil, salt and vinegar). We comply with EC Regulation 853/2004 which ensures treatment for the prevention against ANISAKIS. This product does not contain gluten. The oily fish is rich in omega 3 and, therefore, helps to prevent cardiovascular diseases.
